AntennaWare to demonstrate BodyWave™ for RTLS in UWB and BLE Channel Sounding hardware at electronica 2026
Belfast, October 2026 - AntennaWare, a specialist in antennas for the body and other challenging platforms, today announced that it will show hardware from two partners featuring its patented BodyWave™ technology at its booth at electronica 2026 in Munich. The hardware covers ultra-wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Channel Sounding, two radio technologies for precise positioning.
The SFM11-MOD is a UWB module by SynchronicIT, a Netherlands-based company specializing in UWB indoor localization and the omlox open standard for industrial real-time locating systems (RTLS). The SFM11-MOD specifies BodyWave™ as standard and is available now.
The AN54LV-K15 is a BLE Channel Sounding module by Raytac, a wireless module manufacturer headquartered in California, USA, with production in Taiwan. The AN54LV-K15 development kit pairs the module with three BodyWave™ antennas to evaluate BLE Channel Sounding for applications such as asset tracking and localization, across different orientations and RF environments.
All wireless devices worn on the body share constraints, regardless of the radio. Tissue detunes conventional antennas and absorbs radiated energy. When the wearer’s body blocks the direct signal path, creating Non-Line-of-Sight (NLoS) conditions, link budgets fall, and position updates lose accuracy or drop out entirely. UWB transmits very short pulses across a wide bandwidth, which allows precise measurement of signal timing. BLE Channel Sounding combines phase measurements with round-trip time. Both depend on a usable signal reaching the receiver.
A walk test compared a SynchronicIT UWB module fitted with a conventional chip antenna against the same module fitted with BodyWave™. In NLoS conditions, the chip antenna reported location errors of up to 70 meters. BodyWave™ addresses the problem at the antenna, recording link budget improvements of 6-12 dB in NLoS conditions, translating to double the range or half the power consumption, and position data that offers the reliability required for real-time, mission-critical applications.
Dr. Gareth Conway, CEO of AntennaWare, said, “Body blocking is an antenna problem, so it follows the device whichever radio protocol it uses. Product teams choosing between UWB and BLE Channel Sounding still have to solve it. With BodyWave™, designers can choose the protocol that suits their application and still get reliable position data from a wearable device.”
Visitors to AntennaWare’s booth (Booth C2.608) can see live demonstrations, alongside live VNA comparisons of BodyWave™ and conventional antennas. The SFM11-MOD, omlox tags, and evaluation kits are available to order via SynchronicIT. For more information on AN54LV-K15, get in touch with Raytac.
