AntennaWare has been shortlisted in two categories at the NI Tech Awards 2026, sponsored by MCS Group, with winners announced at the awards show on 24th September 2026.

AntennaWare has been shortlisted for Most Innovative Project for the Commercialisation of BodyWave™ Antenna Technology and our CEO & co-founder, Dr Gareth Conway, is a finalist for Tech Visionary of the Year.

Update: No wins for us this year, however congratulations to our CEO/Co-Founder Dr Gareth Conway who was named runner up in a stellar line up of local Tech Visionaries. Next year Gareth!

Commercialisation of BodyWave™ Antenna Technology

AntennaWare is a spin-out of Queen’s University Belfast. Our patented BodyWave™ technology addresses common constraints in wireless design: antennas worn on or near the body lose signal to absorption and detuning, shortening range, reducing reliability, and draining battery life. Validation on tissue-representative test beds records link budget improvements of 6-12 dB in Non-Line-of-Sight conditions.

Elite Sport

The S8 device in the Catapult Vector 8 athlete monitoring system uses BodyWave™ antenna technology. Catapult reports a tenfold increase in RF signal power. Athletes wear the device between their shoulder blades during training and match play, where their bodies block the signal between the transmitter and receiver.

Film & Broadcast Audio

Raycom built the sub-GHz BodyWave™ into the Viviana Pebble, replacing the whip antenna on the wireless transmitters worn by presenters and performers on set. In real-world testing, Raycom recorded range increasing from 51 m with a standard whip antenna to 122 m with the Pebble.

Wildlife Tracking & Research

Icoteq uses a BodyWave™ UWB antenna in its TagRanger® tracking tag and handheld Finder. Conservation researchers use TagRanger® to track pangolins, wild dogs, giant tortoises, and more. Icoteq testing recorded uniform gain across 360°, regardless of the tag's orientation on a moving animal, which is crucial for reliable and accurate location data.

Tech Visionary of the Year

Dr Gareth Conway has worked in antennas and propagation research for almost 20 years and is an Associate Professor in Wireless Communications at Queen’s University Belfast. His research focuses on wireless communications on and around the body, having published over 40 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers. Dr Conway, along with co-founder and CTO Dr Matthew Magill, started AntennaWare in 2020 to take that work into commercial products.

“Every device that matters is moving closer to the body, and every one of them is being asked to run longer on a smaller cell. Those two curves meet at the antenna. We have spent twenty years there, and the companies furthest ahead in their fields are already designing around it.”
