Embedded World 2026: AntennaWare and SynchronicIT partner to advance accuracy of UWB for Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS)

Our latest partnership is bringing a new level of performance to UWB Real-Time Location Systems. We have joined forces with SynchronicIT, a Netherlands-based ultra-wideband (UWB) module vendor and indoor localization expert, bringing together our patented BodyWave™ antenna technology and SynchronicIT's Omlox Tag Stack to deliver significant improvements in accuracy and reliability, particularly in the non-line-of-sight conditions that challenge existing solutions.

UWB: Precision technology with a persistent problem

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a maturing radio technology with superior timing and location tracking capabilities and offers unparalleled precision, measuring distances at the centimetre level. However, the problem that has held back wide-spread adoption of UWB for wearables, is body-blocking or body-absorption and limits use cases to non-real-time applications rather than mission or life critical projects. UWB radios placed on any conductive surface (either human, animal or metal bodies) will suffer detuning and result in unreliable and sub-optimal data being generated.

The BodyWave™ solution

The BodyWave™ antenna, based on patented technology, can improve link margins for on-body and on-metal use cases from 6 to 12dB in non-line-of-sight (NLoS). These gains result in a material increase in accuracy, range and/or a significant reduction in power i.e. "Double the distance, half the power" even in the challenging Non-Line-of-Sight conditions. This ensures that UWB can now be trusted to provide reliable real-time data for body-worn and metal placed products.
